INDAY SARA, BATO, KARLO NOT IN ALVAREZ PDP-LABAN SENATORIAL SLATE
House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez apparently does not want Dabawenyos to see one of their kind in the senatorial slate of President Rodrigo Duterte in the 2019 mid-term election.
Alvarez, representing in Congress the First District of Davao de Norte, is not supporting Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, daughter of President Duterte; Davao City First District Congressman Karlo Nograles, son of former Speaker Prospero Nograles; and Ronald dela Rosa, PNP chief who is from Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur.
Alvarez, secretary general of the ruling Partido Demokratiko Pilipino (PDP) of President Duterte, did not include the Dabawenyo potential Senate bets, in a list of candidates he presented at oath taking of new PSP members on Saturday in Tagum City, Davao del Norte.
ALVAREZ’S LINE-UP: Senate President Koko Pimentel, Special Assistant to the President Bong Go, Cong. Ace Barbers (Surigao del Sur), Cong. Zaid Dong Mangungudatu (Maguindanao), Cong. Alfie Benitez for the Visayas, Cong. Reynaldo Umali, Congresswoman Geraldine Roman for Luzon, former Senator Pia Cayetano and presidential adviser Francis Tolentino.
Senate President Koko Pimentel, the PDP president, earlier also came out with his own probable candidates that included Duterte-Carpio, Bato and Nograles.
The Speaker’s move not to include Mayor Duterte-Carpio apparently is linked to the recent formation of the regional party Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HnP).
Reports said that Duterte-Carpio, who organized the party along with governors of the Davao Region, that HnP would field a slate to battle it out against the line-up of the “Alvarez Wing” of the PDP in the 2019 polls.
Directly threatened by the HnP would be Alvarez, who is seeking reelection.
Duterte-Carpio had called Alvarez an “asshole” after the Speaker described the HnP as an opposition party organized against the President.
Duterte-Carpio said she was not forgiving Alvarez for the slur and vowed to personally campaign against his reelection.
