Three committees of the House of Representatives in an executive on April 16, approved the proposed Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL).
President Rodrigo Duterte has endorsed the BBL as a priority bill for a lasting peace in Mindanao.
The BBL, that would create a new autonomous region to replace the Autonomous Region for Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), is the legal framework of the peace deal signed between the government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).
The House committees — local government, Muslim affairs and special panel on peace, reconciliation and unity – approved the proposed measure with a 2-1 vote.
The joint panel will resume its hearings on May 15, when Congress resumes sessions.
