Four potential senators from Davao City, the home city of President Rodrigo Duterte, have made it to the list of possible candidates in the 2019 mid-term election of the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino/Lakas ng Bansa (PDP/Laban).
Duterte is national president of the party that he rode in the race for the presidency in 2016.
The PDP/Laban list of 15 senatoriables came out in a survey conducted among 184 party members composed of the party’s national officers, national government officials, members of Congress, local government officials, and party leaders representing the private sector conducted during a General Assembly held at the Gymnasium of the GSIS Financial Center along Roxas Boulevard on August 31.
The four Dabawenyos who emerged in the internal survey were:
Sara “Inday” Zimmerman Duterte-Carpio, presidential daughter and Mayor of Davao City
Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go, Special Assistant to the President.
Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa, current chief, Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) and former chief, Philippine National Police (PNP).
Karlo Alexei “Karlo” Nograles, Davao City First District representative, son of former House Speaker Prospero “Nogie” Nograles; chairman, House Committee on Appropriations.
The survey was topped by Senator Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III (175) with Sara Duterte-Carpio (155) and SAP Bong Go statistically tied in second place; Bato dela Rosa landed at 7th place with 110.
