Some members the House of Representatives are asking President Rodrigo Duterte to fire his economic managers amid the nine-year high August inflation of 6.4 percent.
The economic managers whose heads the lawmakers want Duterte to chop off are Sec. Paul Dominguez Department of Finance (DoF), Sec. Benjamin Diokno of the Department of Budget and Management (DBM), Director-General Ernesto Pernia of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) and Sec. Ramon Lopez of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
In the Senate, Senators advised Duterte to sway his focus away from the war on drugs to more pressing economic issues as prices of basic commodities skyrocket and inflation in August soared to a record-high 6.4%.
Minority Leader Danilo Suarez and Senior Deputy Minority Leader Rep. Lito Atienza led the call on Duterte to fire the economic managers.
“Now, with a 6.4 percent inflation, we ask the admin to start maybe removing some concern or involved officials in this inefficiency,” Suarez said.
“Some economic managers of the Duterte admin are not capable of doing what they are tasked to do,” he said.
It is high time for them to be removed, said Atienza.
