BANGSAMORO CONFERS “ADOPTED MAGUINDANAOAN” ON SENATOR MIGZ ZUBIRI
BY ROGER M. BALANZA
The Bangsamoro has honored Bukidnon Senator Miguel Zubiri as an “Adopted Maguindanaoan” for his crucial role in the search for peace in Mindanao.
Zubiri, principal author of Republic Act. No. ____or the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL), was conferred the honor on September 17, 2018 in Cotabato City.
Conferring the honor, and representing Mindanao’s Bangsamoro, on Zubiri were Al Haj Murad Ebrahim, Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) chairman, and Muslimin Sema, Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) chairman. The event was witnessed by Mindanao political leaders led by House Deputy Leader Representative Bai Sandra Sema, civil society groups and stakeholders in the Mindanao peace movements.
The BOL is part of the Duterte administration’s agenda to achieve national reconciliation with the MILF and MNLF, the major Moro rebel groups in Mindanao whose progress, development and peace had been hobbled for decades by the Moro Insurgency.
Formerly known as the Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL), the BOL is a product of years of peace negotiations with the Moro revolutionary groups, stakeholders in Mindanao and foreign partners sharing the quest for lasting peace in the Philippines’ southern island.
