Former Davao City vice mayor Paolo Duterte has filed another libel rap against Senator Antonio Trillanes, the second libel complaint by the presidential son against the most vocal critic of President Rodrigo Duterte.
Paolo filed the complaint on Wednesday, September 19, with the Office of the City Prosecutor in Davao City.
Trillanes now faces three libel complaints: two from Paolo and another from his brother-in-law, Manases Carpio, husband of Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio.
The new libel complaint stemmed from separate interviews with CNN Philippines’ Pinky Webb on June 14 and one with radio station DZMM on June 6, where the opposition Senator linked Paolo to the smuggling of P6.4 billion worth of shabu from China. Paolo would resign as vice mayor shortly after appearing in a Senate probe where he vehemently denied role in the shabu smuggling.
Duterte’s first libel complaint filed also in Davao City two weeks ago, pertained to Trillanes’ September 2017 interview wherein the Senator accused Paolo and Carpio of conniving with Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board regional official Ahmed Cuison in demanding money in approval of an application for a franchise by Uber.
