EX-SPEAKER TO GET STARRING ROLE IN INDAY SARA SPEECH
Former House Speaker First District Rep. Pantaleon Alvarez will be the “star” of the day when presidential daughter Davao City Mayor Inday Sara Duterte leads her Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HnP) in a grand rally on April 15, Monday, in Tagum City, Davao del Norte.
But Alvarez should wish that he would not be the “star” of the event.
Because In her speech, Inday Sara was expected to repeat her earlier indictment that Alvarez is an “asshole.” The Monday HnP grand rally could be the right moment for Inday Sara to make true her earlier vow to personally campaign against the re-election of the former Speaker.
Inday Sara, chair of HnP, was primarily expected to drum up support for the senatorial candidates of her regional political party in the midterm elections on May 13.
But HnP has also fielded a full slate in the Davao Region local polls.
In Davao del Norte, the HnP line-up is led by Governor Anthony del Rosario, who is challenging re-electionist Alvarez in the First District race for Congress.
Before Alvarez was ousted as Speaker of the House of Representatives in July last year, the then sitting Speaker called the newly-organized HnP as an “opposition party.”
Alvarez also reportedly bragged that he can have President Rodrigo Duterte impeached because he had the numbers in the House.
Stung by the remarks, Inday Sara called Alvarez an “asshole” and vowed to personally campaign against the reelection of the former Speaker.
Inday Sara played key role in the ouster of Alvarez, a fact admitted by President Duterte.
The President has endorsed the bids of HnP lead candidates Gov. del Rosario, re-electionist 2nd District Rep. Antonio Floirndo and Rodolfo “Rodney” del Rosario, Jr. for governor.
The HnP team is up against the Alvarez-led Alvarez Wing,, a local faction of the ruling Partido Demokratiko Pilipino/Lakas ng Bayan (Pdp/Laban).
President Duterte is throwing his support to the Gov. del Rosario-led HnP, even as Alvarez is secretary general of the PDP/Laban which is chaired by the President.
