Party-list lawmakers may have narrowed down their choice for the next Speaker to two, but AKO Bicol Rep. Alfredo Garbin Jr. said the stand may change with Davao City First District Rep. Paulo “Pulong” Duterte saying he is joining the race for Speaker of the House of Representatives of the 18th Congress.
Pulong has the qualities to be Speaker, said a report, quoting Garbin, Wednesday morning, July 2, on DZRH.
Garbin earlier said the party-list coalition would consider President Rodrigo Duterte’s pick when it makes a final decision.
Party-list lawmakers also earlier said they would support either .Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco and Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez. The third lawmaker who expressed interest to be Speaker is Taguig-Pateros Rep. Peter Alan Cayetano.
Pulong, in a statement on July 2, said he was considering running for Speaker.
This even as the President had earlier said he would resign if Pulong run for the speakership.
