The leader of the Philippines’ largest Muslim rebel group is optimistic about the signing of a peace deal with the government, the group said on its website Sunday. With the southern peace talks now in the crucial stage, the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) expressed hopes on Monday that “things will turn out smoothly” as negotiations proceed. MILF sets deadline on Kato surrender

   Renegade commander Ameril Umra Kato has been given by the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) two weeks to totally cut ties or rejoin the group or up to September 26. Kato, a ranking MILF commander,  has formed his own splinter group, the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF), in what is seen as a temporary split with one of Mindanao’s largest Moro rebel group.
