Tribes offer help to secure peace

    The tribal community in Tampakan, South Cotabato will work with municipal leaders and a local mining company in ensuring peace within the latter’s project area, confirmed as the country’s largest minerals deposit. “Our community can help in ensuring that there is security in the project area,” says tribal Chieftain Dalena Samling. 8,000 B’laan children sent to school as scholars

Since its pre-feasibility stage, Sagittarius Mines has been providing annual community. Funds have been used to implement various education, community health, livelihood, small infrastructure and capability-building programs. For instance, while the B’laan in Tampakan used to be the most marginalized indigenous group in the region, all of the B’laan children are now going to school. These children would be supported until they wcomplete their college education. Through Sagittarius’ education assistance program, more than 8,000 scholars have so far been sent to school. The older population can also benefit through Sagittarius’ adult literacy program.
